It was a cool winter morning when Sweetie was born on the frosty covered farm land at The Home. While making the usual rounds feeding the animals, staff came upon the new calf. They were soon to discover that Sweetie’s mom did not make it through the birthing process. Sweetie was instantly swept up and brought to the Goat Barn to be nursed, cared for and protected. For the next several months our kids, who undoubtedly could relate to her situation, loved and cherished their time with Sweetie. On any given day you’ll find our kids up at the farm caring for the animals. Visiting the farm is one of the most favorite experiences that a kid has on our campus. In a lot of ways, kids can relate to the animals at our farm because they too may have been abandoned or mistreated. Now they have a special home where they are loved, cared for and can feel protected. A few might even get a big sloppy kiss from Becky, the donkey, which always puts a smile on a face! Recently a donor came forward to sponsor Sweetie for the year. The sponsor’s financial donation will cover the veterinarian bills, feed and grooming needs for Sweetie. You, too, can sponsor one of our animals in our Friendly Barnyard. How can you be a part of such a heartwarming venture? Contact the Development Office (336-721-7607) or lmetz@tchome.org to find out who still needs to be adopted and to find out more details. Adoptive sponsors will receive a periodic letter with news about their Friendly Barnyard animal’s experience on the farm. Becky, Gus, Jack, Ozzie, Petunia, Annie, Hope, Cleo, Charmer and many others look forward to your call! A Very Special Thank You to the 5th Graders in Saturday Academy at Konnoak Elementary for their creativity in writing the stories of our animals! Also Thank You to Ms. Weston for building the excitement and embracing this project of her kids! The animals at the farm greatly appreciate it!! And the animals would like to invite the writers for a special visit!! 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27104Phone: 336-721-7600 |
